Chocolate Pretzel Bites

These treats are so easy, it almost seems like a sin to write a whole blog  post about them.  I’ll keep this one short, because really, it doesn’t need much instruction and if you’re into sweet, salty, and easy, then you are in to these.

Once you learn the basic method, the combinations that you can dream up are endless.  These particular creations were a combination of various Hershey kisses, with a peanut M&M on top.  Another flavor combo that I can personally vouch for is a melted rolo with a pecan or walnut pressed into it.  The steps are basically as follows:

1.  Melt something ooey and gooey on a pretzel (I guess it doesn’t even need to be a pretzel!  Be creative)

2.  Push something into the melted chocolate (while it is still a little firm)

3.  Cool

4.  Consume by the handfuls (they are small, so you can have a handful, right?)

In case you’re a visual person (I know I am…), here are the steps in picture form:

Here’s where you put it in the oven to melt, slightly…

4 to 6 minutes in a 170 degree oven should be sufficient.  You want the chocolate to be malleable, but not melting all over the place.

Push candy or nut of your choice into the chocolate.

To speed up cooling, I throw these in the fridge for about 10 minutes to help them set.  Then they are ready to consume (by the handfuls, remember?)

The best part about these treats is that you can make a huge batch of them in mere minutes.  Think about how many pretzels you could fit on a standard size cookie sheet.  That’s how many you can make and have ready to eat in less than 20 minutes.

P.S.  These are awesome when you want to bring something to a friend’s gathering, but don’t want to put in the time, effort, or expense.  Just saying!
