We’re having a Party!

…For 50+ people.  Eep!

Jeff and I bought our first house this spring and we are finally christening it with a housewarming bash this Saturday!  We’ve invited pretty much everyone we know, and a lot of them are coming.

I feel like this is our first “welcome to the big leagues” event, when it comes to party planning.  In the past, we’ve hosted game nights and football watching parties, but usually for crowds of around 10 or so.  Now comes the daunting challenge of trying to provide food for 50+ people, and not all at the same time.  I expect that most people will be coming and going all day, which provides the added challenge of keeping the food fresh and hot all day long.

Our strategy with this party is going to be a combination of assistance from the store (subs and wraps), people generously bringing dishes, and then me picking up the slack with a variety of “picnic-style” food.  I’ve got about 5 different food items that I’m going to make, including snacks, entrees, and desserts.  The problem is, who has time to make all that stuff right before the party? I’m going to have other worries on my mind that day! The party starts at 2pm on Saturday, so I’m looking at recipes that can be assembled 2-3 days in advance, and then finished off quickly that morning.

The prep work adventure begins tonight – stay tuned!

Either of the pasta salads (vegetable or chicken) can be made a day or 2 ahead and are easy to make. If you want to cut down on the prep time used canned diced tomatoes instead of chopping fresh ones.
